       Michigan is fairly large and has a big population compared to other states. Michigan is located in the midwestern region  of the country. all of the bordering states are Wisconsin, Illinois, and Ohio. Michigan covers 96,716 square miles and it is ranked eleventh in size compared the other states.  Can you believe Michigan has a population of 9,883,640 and Michigan is ranked eighth in population to other states.The state capital of Michigan is Lansing which is located in the southern part of the Great Lakes Plains.  Lansing has a population of 114,297 residents. Some other major cities are Detroit and Grand Rapids. They are both located to the south of the Great Lakes Plains. The population of Detroit is 713,777 and the population of the Grand Rapids is 188,040.

Climate

      Climate is one of the interesting things about michigan. In January the average temperature is twenty  degrees and the average July temperature is sixty nine Degrees.On top of that the lowest temperature ever  recorded was negative fifty one degrees,and the highest temperature was one hundred twelve degrees.The yearly  precipitation averages thirty two inches. Michigan's summers are warm and sunny ,and its springs are mild. autumns are crisp and cool, But its winters  have rain, sleet, Hail, snow and even blizzards..

Land Forms 

        Stuningle the  highest elevation in Michigan is Mount Arvon which reaches 1979 feet located  in the Gogebic Range,and the Northern Highland land region,Mount Arvon has been the highest point since 1982.Mount Curwood is shorter than Mount Arvon by 11 inches. Mount Arvon is very steep and snowy and extremely difficult  to climb.The mountain ranges in Michigan are the Gogebic Range, Copper range, Huron Range, and Arvon Range. 

Land Regions 

Michigan has two land regions. The Great Lakes Plain are very interesting land region.One thousand years ago,michigan had an ice covered surface. Do to that, it has very fertile soil.The land is covered with  farmland,rolling hills and thirty five mile sand dunes around lake michigan. On the shores of lake Michigan there is a beautiful dune know as Sleeping Bear Dunes.

The Superior Upland is made up of rugged hills and forests.Michigan  has the biggest deposits in the world of iron and copper.Also the Huron Range  is located in the western part of the state.Mount Arvon is the tallest mountain in Michigan  and it is located in the Huron Range.Stuningle It is taller than Mount curwood by 1 foot!
